As you can probably tell, I am starving for teacher conversation! I'm sorry if I seem to keep sharing and questioning and commenting and rambling...
Anyway, Nikki and I are interested in creating a RIG (reading inquiry group) with other TCs in our area. Does anyone have any advice, suggestions, helpful hints? What's worked? What hasn't worked?
We were thinking of using the Probst, Beers and Rief anthology, Adolescent Literacy to begin with. Thoughts?

I know for me to stay involved with book club, the reminder emails from Lisa are critical. (usually one a week before and one the day before or the day of) It's also helpful that she gets the information to Patrick for the newsletter.
ReplyDeleteAnother idea that I think will be useful is the Google group that Ann Thompson set up for the Inquiry Group Petra started for The Art of Teaching Writing. Since I've been working on other things, I haven't started the book, so I haven't done any interacting in the group, but later I (or Ann or Petra or anyone else in that RIG) could tell you if it is helpful. I think this blog has been a nice addition to this week; I imagine that one will too.

Just a question about Reading Inquiry Groups for those of you who have been involved with them...Does your administration give you any release time to get together or is it all outside of the school day? I can see some of the teachers at my school getting on board if they were offered professional time or CEUs. Just wondering. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteGood luck with the project.
ReplyDeleteI know that Michael Rosen did a wonderful programme with schools and libraries last years (I think it was) and Scotland has some good approaches, but other than that I have no idea.
